For the best treasures, you have to get up early before everything gets picked over by birds and your fellow tourists.
Sand dollars, sea urchin shells, and beach shells can be fairly easy to find but make sure the organisms who dwell(ed) inside have already vacated.
Watch for posted signs within the park as the removal of driftwood, shells, and especially live creatures are prohibited.
The Tofino whale watching season begins in March with the Pacific Rim Whale Festival and lasts into autumn with peak sightings in spring during the gray whale northward migration and throughout the summer months culminating in their southbound return in early September.
All whale watching trips last between 2-3 hours and you will also most likely encounter eagles, seals, and sometimes orcas and porpoise. Choose between high speed Zodiacs or the comfort of the larger covered boats.
The price and policies for children wishing to go whale watching in Tofino varies depending on vessel type, trip length and services offered. You can find departure times throughout the day including sunset whale cruises.
