Marine Tours & Charters

Guided tours of Clayoquot Sound's remarkable marine diversity have likely been happening for thousands of years when the local Nuu-chah-nulth groups showed their inland trading partners around their home territories.

In recent history, we know that the Clayoquot Sea Lion Cruise was the first tour company to formally hang a shingle in the area. This adventurous family-run business launched a 21' Boston Whaler in the late 1960s from Long Beach, where waves crashing over the bow would thrill the guests.

Only 40-50 years ago, humpback and grey whale sightings were not very common. The company was called a "Sea Lion Cruise" because seeing whales on each tour was not a guarantee. Thankfully, whale and marine habitat conservation efforts around the world have helped the cetacean population expand to the point where Tofino charter companies guarantee whale sightings.
